Frequently Asked Questions
Five technical differentiators that define the Marcato standard:
1. Exclusively European hardware — Salice (Italy) for hinges, Blum (Austria) for drawer slides, and Cinetto (Italy) for sliding systems. The same brands used by Boffi, Poliform, and Molteni.
2. Thicker than standard — 25 mm for sides, bases, and shelves in bedrooms. More robust, more durable.
3. 1 mm assembly tolerance — each project is manufactured and installed millimeter by millimeter.
4. Modules delivered assembled and adjusted directly from the factory in Cedral/SP, with our own installation team.
5. 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects — five to ten times more than the market standard.
Marcato manufactures furniture to last for generations.
Before finalizing your choice with any woodworking shop, it's worth asking these technical questions. They differentiate high-end woodworking from ordinary woodworking.
1. What hardware do you use? Is it exclusively European (Salice, Blum, Cinetto, Hafele)?
2. What is the thickness of the sides and shelves? 18 mm or 25 mm?
3. What is the assembly tolerance in millimeters?
4. What is the thickness of the edge banding? What type of glue is used (PUR or EVA)?
5. Is the painting automated or manual? What color system do you work with?
6. Are the furniture pieces delivered assembled or disassembled?
7. Is the installation team in-house or outsourced?
8. Do you have your own factory or do you outsource production?
9. How many years of warranty against manufacturing defects?
10. How long has the woodworking shop been in operation?
At Marcato, all answers align with international high-end woodworking standards. The answers to these questions often reveal a lot about the actual quality of what is being delivered.
"MDF or MDP — which is better?" That's the wrong question.
The right question is: which material for which function.
Most popular woodworking shops and brands only work with MDF, for all furniture, in all parts. They sell this as "premium quality". The technical truth is different: they only work with MDF because it's simpler to buy, stock, and produce — not because it's technically superior.
The consequence appears over time: doors and structures made from the same material, even when the correct engineering would call for different materials.
Marcato uses MDF and MDP, choosing the material according to the technical function of each part.
MDF (wood fibers)
- Homogeneous surface — ideal for detailed machining and painting
- For doors, fronts, painted panels, natural veneers
MDP (wood particles)
- Greater dimensional stability — does not expand or contract with humidity
- Holds screws better in prolonged structural use
- For boxes, bases, sides, backs, structural shelves
Woodworking shops that only work with MDF leave stability on the table. Those that only work with MDP lose out on finishing. Marcato uses both — in the right place.
It's the difference between doing what sells and doing what's right.
At Marcato, all dormitory furniture is produced with 25mm thick panels — for the frame, sides, and doors. Kitchens use 18mm for the frame, with the exception of shelves wider than 80cm, which automatically switch to 25mm to prevent bowing. All back panels — including those for drawers — are 15mm thick. This detail directly impacts the rigidity and durability of the entire unit.
PUR (Reactive Polyurethane) adhesive is used to bond 1mm ABS edge banding to the edges of panels. Unlike conventional EVA adhesive, PUR is waterproof, does not open with heat, and ensures permanent adhesion. The result is a seamless edge that is resistant to moisture and daily use — one of Marcato's construction differentiators.
The sink cabinet opening is one of the most critical areas in a kitchen — constant exposure to moisture and splashes. At Marcato, this opening is lined with green MDF (water-repellent) and receives additional aluminum protection. This prevents warping of the panel and extends the furniture's lifespan even under intensive use.
No. Each Marcato project is developed based on a survey of the space, the client's needs, and the technical specifications of the environment. Only after the project is completed can we quantify and present a precise budget. Generic per-square-meter budgets do not reflect the complexity of a custom environment.
The Marcato proposal is an integrated package, with no hidden fees:
- Custom furniture manufacturing
- Delivery freight
- Technical measurement
- Project verification
- Installation by our own team, factory-trained
- 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects
- Legal assembly warranty (Consumer Protection Code)
Items not included:
- Electronic handles, appliances, special glass
- Additional logistics (fractionated delivery, prolonged storage)
- Extra technical visits
Everything is detailed and approved in the contract before production begins.
Hardware defines the durability and functionality of furniture over the years. We exclusively use European hardware: Italian Salice hinges with soft-close mechanisms, Cinetto sliding systems with anti-derailment mechanisms, and Blum or Grass for drawer slides.

Yes. Marcato offers two complementary warranties on all Sartoria furniture, documented in the contract:
10 years against manufacturing defects
Covers structure, hardware, and finishes. Coverage is provided by the MANUFACTURER (CEMOV Ambientes Planejados), including the legal period of 90 days under the Consumer Defense Code (CDC), counted from the installation date.
90 days against assembly defects
Provided by the SELLER (Marcato), as per the legal period under the CDC.
The market standard for custom-made furniture is 1 to 2 years against manufacturing defects. Marcato offers 5 to 10 times more time than the competition.
After the 90-day assembly warranty period, technical assistance is provided for a visit fee, as per the table.
In high-end woodworking, hardware is structure—not just a detail.
The European Union, through the EN technical standards applicable to furniture, requires premium hinges and slides to undergo durability tests of up to 200,000 open and close cycles. Hardware that does not meet this standard cannot be sold as high-end in demanding European markets.
Most national hardware—and almost all Chinese hardware sold in Brazil—does not meet this standard. Many do not reach 30,000 cycles without fatigue, noise, or loss of function.
The practical result appears over time: the furniture seems well-made for one or two years. Then, the door starts to sag, the drawer to jam, the system to fail. Replacing the hardware is expensive and, in many cases, requires remaking the furniture.
Marcato exclusively uses Salice (Italy), Blum (Austria), and Cinetto (Italy)—all certified to the most rigorous European standards.
A question worth asking any woodworking shop: "Does your hardware meet the 200,000 cycles of the European standard? Can I see the certificate?"
If the answer is evasive, that's a sign.
Edge banding seems like an aesthetic detail. It's structural.
The edge banding protects the panel edge from moisture, heat, and impact. If the banding fails, water enters. The panel swells. The furniture is ruined.
Most woodworking shops use 0.45mm banding applied with EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) glue. This is the economical version—easy to apply, moderate adhesion. Over time, especially in humid areas (kitchen, bathroom, laundry room), the banding detaches.
Marcato uses 1mm ABS banding applied with PUR (Reactive Polyurethane) glue. The difference is technical and measurable:
- 1mm ABS banding—more robust, resistant to impact and abrasion. More refined appearance, subtly rounded.
- PUR glue—cures by chemical reaction (not by evaporation like EVA). Creates a permanent molecular bond. Does not detach under heat, moisture, or vibration.
In European markets, PUR glue is standard in high-end joinery. In Brazil, it is still an exception—because it is more expensive, requires specific equipment, and a controlled application process.
A question worth asking any woodworking shop: "How many millimeters is the edge banding? Is the glue PUR or EVA?"
If the answer is "0.45mm" or "EVA," you already know what to expect in a few years.
