The city as wallpaper — when the double-height ceiling and industrial window change the scale of everything
The Triplex's industrial window is the commanding element: from floor to ceiling, it spans the entire back wall and frames the Belo Horizonte skyline as a moving panorama. In front of it, the dark graphite kitchen — integrated cabinets, exposed concrete island, built-in cooktop — imposes itself with monumental scale. The double-height ceiling transforms what would be a kitchen into a first-rate architectural gesture.
Floor-to-ceiling cabinets 4.80m high require an entirely different installation engineering from conventional modules. At Marcato, each panel above 2.40m is secured to the slab with a metal tie rod, in addition to the conventional screw in the wall. This dual anchoring ensures that, even in the event of slight seismic movement or structural vibration of the building, the woodwork remains stable. The doors are produced from 2.80m MDF sheets — a single piece, seamless — transported vertically up the stairwell and installed with precision guides.
The polished concrete floor and the stone of the island echo the exposed concrete — it's a project that embraces industrial vocabulary without succumbing to kitsch. The difference between a real industrial loft and an imitation lies in the materials: in the Triplex, cement is cement, concrete is concrete, metal is metal. There are no simulacra. Marcato contributed to this authenticity by choosing finishes that age with dignity: the matte graphite gains a patina, the edges acquire history.
